OUR STORY

about our name

Baba’s is named for the original Baba, who immigrated from Estonia to Peaks Island (with a few intervening stops) in 1971.

Baba brought four generations to Peaks Island and spent many years living year-round on Upper A street, where friends often dropped in for coffee.

about our SPACE

We opened our doors in 2022, focusing on high quality and locally sourced ingredients.

Our owners spent 18 months constructing and re-constructing a dilapidated 1901 cape house on Island Avenue.

ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY

Our community has shaped who we are.

Jesse, who plumbed the house, gifted us a chessboard-made-of-pipes—reinforcing our love of chess and game nights. The American Legion on Peaks delivered a centuries old piano, which has deepened our identity as a space for music and performance.

Friend of the cafe and local artist Bryce designed our beautiful logo and signage. And when a storm knocked down the big tree next to Baba’s, local artist Doug Smith spent almost three years carving it into an octopus, lovingly named Rosie.

In the spirit of Baba, our door is always open for friends stopping by for a coffee.
